Strange By (Fashion) Design

We were all put on this planet to silently inspire one another.

These unique fashion designs don’t just provide shock value, they redefine the future materiality of fashion through sustainability, art, biology and innovation.

IRIS VAN HERPEN “SYMPOIESIS” COLLECTION, FW25 HAUTE COUTURE

A standout look in Iris Van Herpen’s FW 25 Collection disrupts bio-innovative fashion design in every manner. This design is ALIVE, with the material composed of 125 million bioluminescent algae.

To properly care for the algae dress, it requires a cool, quiet environment with eight hours of light and eight hours of rest. The dress needs delicate daily attention to survive.

The dress was engineered in collaboration with bio-designer Chris Bellamy.
