On July 12, 1998, YSL presented three hundred archival designs and models at the Stade de France for the FIFA World Cup Final in Paris. The collection was designed by Yves Saint Laurent himself to celebrate the monumental 40th anniversary of his luxury house.

According to Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris, it took nine hundred people to organize the 15-minute show and a historical 1.7 billion people worldwide tuned in.

The haute couture collection was vibrant, bold, and playful. The event taught the fashion industry the untapped potential of live broadcasting runway shows on a global scale. Meanwhile, it gave a new elevation of culture to the sports industry beyond athletics.

France won the match 3-0, with two points scored by Zinedine Zidane. Zidane earned his title as a national hero and secured the Golden Ball as the tournament’s standout player.

FIFA WORLD CUP FASHION TODAY

FRANCE NATIONAL TEAM WON THE LUXURY BAG GAME

Malo Gusto & Robin Risser with Louis Vuitton Bags, Marcus Thuram with a Chanel x Robin Williams XXL Flap Bag.

The French team is taking over the fashion internet upon their Boston arrival sporting these luxury and rare handbags. Although an incredibly viral fashion moment, many posts aren’t naming the athletes.

These men deserve fashion credit where credit is due.

In terms of global male figures, we see celebrities or musicians wearing men’s luxury bags. Fashion icons such as Jacob Elordi, A$AP Rocky, and Harry Styles.

Travis Kelce is the first recognized athlete who is frequently spotted wearing Louis Vuitton travel bags.

Rayan Cherki & Ousmane Dembele with Hermès bags, and William Saliba with a Bottega Veneta bag.

France is the home country to Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Chanel, Christian Dior, Saint Laurent, Celine, Cartier, and Givenchy - so it’s no surprise these athletes showed up in luxury style.

Historically, France has been the global fashion capital since the 17th century. Haute couture was invented in France by Charles Frederick Worth in the mid-1800s.
